Food as money was an important key-point which stimulated first conquistadores to explore the world, searching for India and its precious spices; the same reason for colonialism and formation of economic empires.

The reflection of it were exotic goods which slowly started to travel to new countries and finished to enter definitely in our daily life, becoming  global. It was a progressive adaptation, realized through localization, domestication and assimilation processes.

We are sons of Columbian Exchange, which provided us most of food present on our table, originally coming from very far away!

Nowadays our life is covered by sugar, for example, but we don’t even realize it because during the time sugar has been unclothed from its symbolism and it’s not a luxurious good anymore, but it’s commonly present all around the world.
